No Be Today: Five Actors Asides Genevieve Who Have Turned Producers In The Past

Most recent news on Nollywood streets might be that Nollywood sweetheart, Genevieve Nnaji is making her debut as a Producer.
But not only Genevieve has taken the bold step to make her own movies, other actors have done it in the past and with much success too!
Let’s refresh your memories.

Funke Akindele

She came into our consciousness on the hit show, I need to know. And according to the actress, after the fame from the popular show, movie roles did not exactly fall into her laps. She had to strive for them and eventually, had to try her luck in the Yoruba arm of Nollywood where she finally found her feet.
However, Funke realized that to tell her own stories, she had to make them by herself.
And that was when she made her debut as a Producer, making her first movie, Ojo Ketala.
Over a decade later and with numerous awards, including the prestigious AMAA for her role in Jenifa, Funke has shown us that she’s got great skills as an actress and a Producer.

Kunle Afolayan

He might be the average Nigerian’s favorite Producer right now, but this famed Director did not have it so easy. Like Funke Akindele, he came into an Industry where he realized it took more than acting to express one’s creativity.
And so, after starring in a few movie roles, the most prominent being Arese in Tunde Kelani’s Saworoide, he took the bold step of making his first movie as a co-producer in Irapada.
Even though the movie might have been a flop (not turning out as expected at the box office), his subsequent efforts; Figurine, Phone Swap and October 1, were box office hits and gathered him numerous awards.
The most recent being the AMVCA.

Rita Dominic

Rita Dominic made her acting debut in Nollywood almost a decade ago and since then, she has become not only a well sought after actress but a Fashion Icon as well. After taking a break from major Nollywood movies for a while, Rita Dominic returned in 2011 as a part of Audrey Silva Company to produce her first movie, The Meeting.
And it opened to critical and commercial success, placing the actress in the place of successful Producer and very successful actress.

Rukky Sanda

If there was an actress who realized early in her career how she wanted her movies to be like, it was Rukky Sanda. The actress has acted in several movies, most of them being the ones she produced by herself.
Always hiring class Acts and A-listers, Ms Rukky Sanda has learnt a thing or two about producing and they are working for her… like crazy.

Adebowale Seilat

 

After waiting endlessly for all of her initial projects to get produced, Seilat Adebowale thought to take her own destiny into her hands. So she went ahead and produced her first movie.
Although, green at the time, the movie came out to moderate success and moved her up the ladder in the movie industry.
With more movies under her acting belt, we expect something better for the next producing effort.
