Following
the inconclusive poll declaration as a result of the violence that
marred the gubernatorial election in some parts of these three states,
Imo, Abia and Taraba, the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, may have scheduled the run-off elections to next Saturday.
The April 18 proposed date was yet to be officially confirmed, however, sources in the commission disclosed yesterday that senior officials, who should take the decision, were yet to meet on the development.
INEC had declared the Imo State gubernatorial election inconclusive following the cancellation of results from 216 polling units that cut across 23 local governments with about 144 accredited voters.
In Abia State, the polls were declared inconclusive because the state electoral officer was said to have earlier cancelled the results from Obioma Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa and Osisioma Ngwa local government area, only to later authenticate the results, a development that led to protests by members of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Taraba State governorship election was also adjourned as a result of violent escalation.
