We’ve been vindicated by Iwuanyanwu’s resignation – LP

The Labour Party on Tuesday said it had been vindicated by the resignation of Chief Dan Iwanyanwu both as a member of the party and as its chairman, Board of Trustees.
The party also said it had commenced investigation into the crisis which attended the elections of the Nigeria Labour Congress, during its delegates conference last week in Abuja.
National Chairman, Caretaker Committee of LP, Alhaji Salisu Mohammed, told journalists in Abuja that more issues would come up soon because of the activities of people “who have decided to be running the party for their economic interests.”
He described as laughable, the suggestion by the National Secretary of LP, Kayode Ajulo, that the party was ready to conduct a free and fair election for the NLC.
Mohammed said, “It really shows how cynical some people will be. Ajulo’s suggestion is sarcastic; we are going to tell Nigerian workers the type of people that claim to be leading the party,” he added.
“We didn’t anticipate the information on Iwuanyanwu’s resignation from the party, both as a member and as chairman, BoT of LP. However, it is a vindication of what we have all said pertaining to how people have defied the directive of NLC and Trade Union Congress, in which a convention was held in Akure. We have told the world that they are impostors and do not represent NLC and TUC, which have said they would reclaim the party.
“All the accusations by Iwuanyanwu and his resignation are clear confirmation of all the things we have said, that the party is an instrument of money-making by people lacking every sense of decency. Less than six months, between October and now, Nigerians have seen a lot.
“Dan Iwuanyanwu had told the world of instances of financial recklessness and mismanagement of funds. We welcome his exit and salute the steps he has taken by distancing himself from the financial recklessness that he saw.”
According to him, Nigerian workers should “expect more from people who don’t have a plan for LP”, adding however that the NLC and TUC “have mandated us to reclaim the party.”
He added, “We assure you that we will be irrevocably committed to the reclamation of LP. It is obvious that our victory is not far. There had been a derailment of the party. We are going to see more of the Akure fraud.”
Speaking on the NLC botched election, he said the National Executive Council meeting had been scheduled for Wednesday “while investigations have commenced.”
