Apple
will hold a major press event on March 9, the company announced on
Thursday morning, presumably to give more details about the release of
its much-anticipated Apple Watch. The event will be held in at the Yerba
Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco at 10 a.m.; you can
see the invitation for the event below.
Apple may also use this event as a chance to premiere a new music-streaming service — bolstered by its $3 billion purchase of Beats last year — that it’s reportedly working on.
Apple officially unveiled the Apple Watch
at a September event last year, alongside its iPhone 6 models. The
watch comes in two sizes, and three different categories, including the
base-level Apple Watch, the fitness-focused Apple Watch Sport, and the
luxe Apple Edition watch. They’ll all be coated with durable sapphire
crystal, but the casing around the screen and the straps will differ
depending on which version you buy.
The
standard Apple Watch will start at $349, though it’s unclear what
version that price will be applied to. The standard Apple Watch will be
made with stainless steel, the Sport will come in a light, iodized
aluminum case, and the Apple Edition will be crafted from 18-karat gold
or rose gold. Lots of people (including us) have thrown around guesses about how much that final one will set you back. The most recent credible guesstimate clocked in at around $10,000.

It’s
also important to note that the Apple Watch will need to be paired with
an iPhone for the majority of its data-related functions. However, most
of its fitness-tracking features work while it’s flying solo.
There
are still a few mysteries surrounding the Watch, including details
surrounding battery life, its fitness-tracking capabilities, as well as
the price of its higher-end versions. We also still don’t have a
definite release date, though Apple CEO Tim Cook recently said to expect
the watches to start shipping to customers this April.
For more details on the watch’s potential functions, check out our comprehensive coverage here. We’ll be there on March 9, with our wrists waxed and polished, ready for the real thing
