Abuja - The army has lifted the ban it placed on vehicle movement in the troubled Borno State capital town, Maiduguri.
According to a statement issued late Tuesday and signed by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Col Muhammad Dole, vehicles can start moving on the roads as from Wednesday morning.
The movement ban was part of the security strategies put in place to prevent planned attack of the Boko Haram insurgents during the Sallah celebration.
“On behalf of the entire officers and soldiers of 7 Division Nigerian Army, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Mohammed Ibrahim, wishes to congratulate the good people of Borno State on the successful completion of Ramadan fast and the hitch-free Sallah celebrations in Maiduguri in particular and other parts of the state,” read a statement.
It added, “The ban on vehicular movement in Borno state is hereby lifted with effect from 7.00am on Wednesday, 30 July 2014."
Dole asked the member of the public to remain vigilant and alert and report "any suspicious objects, persons and movements to the security agencies."
